A Little Bit About The Island Rab

Island Rab is located just off the northern Croatian coast in the Adriatic Sea and is a part of the Kvarner archipelago region.
The island is 22 km long and has about 10 000 inhabitants that are mostly occupied in agriculture, fishing and tourism.

Town Rab and all the villages are situated on the green south-western side that is covered with lush vegetation, while the north-eastern side of the island is mostly barren by the strong winds that blow in winter.

There are 7 villages on the island: Barbat, Banjol, Palit, Kampor, Mundanije, Supetarska Draga and Lopar. Our house is situated in Banjol.

Town Rab

Sv. Ivan

Rab has had a turbulent history with many different rulers and systems. It was governed by Illyrians, ancient Greeks and Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, Hungarians to finally Croatians. Their traces are built in town's architecture - you can find them in our churches, walls and palaces that will amaze you.

Rab is covered with lush vegetation, has variety of beaches; from shallow sandy bays to shiny rocky shores with crystal clear sea, and is well known for its mild climate which differs from the mainland.

We have approximately 91 completely sunny days a year and we are lucky to live in one of the sunniest parts of Europe.

With 157 km of cycle paths, 144 km of walking trails, 5 diving centres, twenty tennis courts, paintball field, sea kayaking, hunting and fishing Rab is ideal for active holiday.

When the British king Eduard VIII and American Lady Wallis Simpson in 1936 bade nude on the beach Kandarola, they started island`s naturism epoch. Rab became popular destination for naturalist and sun-lovers from all over the world.

Zavratnica

During your visit make sure to take a boat excursion and sail to the unique Zavratnica fjord - a place of great beauty, and islands Goli and Grgur - as they were "strictly confidential" prisons for political dissidents in former Jugoslavia.

Today, Rab is well equipped with banks and ATMs. We have a post office, taxi, taxi boats, Internet cafes, ambulance, 2 pharmacies, 2 petrol stations, auto mechanics, and the most important we have a daily ferry line from Misnjak (Rab) to Stinica (mainland) and from Lopar (Rab) to Valbiska (island Krk), catamaran line and bus line Rijeka - Rab.
